The Sustainable Print Press

This zine is a self-initiated project that conveys the need for balance between digital and print media, specifically discussing the production of newspapers in general. The zine consists of 4-spreads with illustrations and contents drawn and written by myself. In this project, I challenged myself to create illustrations using the shape and pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. The illustrations aim to communicate the idea of choosing between printed or digital newspapers while the demand for printed newspapers seems to decrease and consumers are mostly the older generations. With the decline of the demand for traditional printed newspapers, there is a need for the market to boost the interest of youths in reading traditional printed newspapers. However, the mass production and the after-use of the newspaper had also been a problem as the use does not guarantee the user being able to reuse or recycle them— which then becomes a problem in the sustainability factors. The form of this zine takes the look of a newspaper as its inspiration and reference. It uses recycled paper that has thin material to mimic the feeling of reading a newspaper, while it’s a zine.
